Santie was the younger and only brother of Peter. Santie was a Liberator pilot in No. 31 SAAF squadron. He also participated in the famous Warsaw supply drop missions. On 12/13 October 1944 his Liberator crashed while on a mission to drop supplies to Italian partisans. All crew were killed.
